Useful Info

Chisapani Nagarkot Trek Best Time, Season, Months

The best time to do the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek is during the spring and autumn seasons, which are considered the peak trekking seasons in Nepal. The trek is possible throughout the year, but the weather and visibility conditions vary depending on the season.

  • Spring season, which lasts from March to May, is a popular time for the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek. During this time, the weather is mild, and the skies are clear, making it an excellent time to enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas. The spring season also brings blooming rhododendron forests, which add to the beauty of the trek.
  • Autumn season, which lasts from September to November, is another popular time for the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek. During this time, the weather is dry, and the skies are clear, providing excellent visibility for mountain views. The autumn season also offers comfortable temperatures, making it a great time to trek.

The monsoon season, which lasts from June to August, is not recommended for the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek, as the trails can be muddy and slippery, and the mountain views may be obscured by clouds and mist. The winter season, which lasts from December to February, is also possible for the trek, but the weather can be very cold, and the mountain views may be affected by fog and haze.

Food or Meal Availability on Chisapani Nagarkot Trek

During the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek, food and meals are available at the teahouses and lodges along the route. These teahouses serve a variety of local and international cuisines, including traditional Nepalese food such as dal bhat (rice, lentil soup, and curry), momos (steamed dumplings), and thukpa (noodle soup). The teahouses also offer a range of breakfast options, such as porridge, eggs, and pancakes, as well as snacks and beverages, including chocolate bars, biscuits, and tea or coffee. Many teahouses also provide refill stations for drinking water, so trekkers can stay hydrated throughout the trek.

While the food options may vary depending on the teahouse, trekkers can expect to find a good selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, depending on their dietary preferences. However, it is important to note that the further you trek from Kathmandu, the less variety of food options you may find. It is advisable to bring some energy bars, trail mix, and other snacks with you for the trek, as the options may be limited in some areas. Additionally, it is important to note that the teahouses and lodges may charge higher prices for food and beverages compared to the cities, due to the difficulty of transporting supplies to remote areas.

Accommodation Facility on Chisapani Nagarkot Trek

During the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek, trekkers can find accommodation facilities in the form of teahouses, lodges, and guesthouses along the route. These facilities are usually basic, with shared rooms and communal toilets, but they provide a comfortable place to rest and sleep after a day of trekking. The teahouses and lodges usually have twin-sharing rooms with two single beds or a double bed, and blankets or duvets are provided for warmth. However, it is advisable to bring a sleeping bag for added comfort and warmth, especially during the winter season.

Most teahouses and lodges have a communal dining area, where trekkers can enjoy their meals and socialize with other trekkers who participated in Chisapani Nagarkot Trek. Some facilities may also have a common area with a fireplace or heater, where trekkers can warm up during cold evenings. It is important to note that the further you trek from Kathmandu, the more basic the accommodation facilities become. Some teahouses may not have running water or electricity, and trekkers may have to use shared outdoor toilets. However, these basic facilities provide an authentic trekking experience and a chance to immerse oneself in the local culture.

It is advisable to book accommodation in advance during the peak trekking season, as the facilities can become crowded and may run out of rooms. It is also important to note that the accommodation prices may be higher in remote areas due to the difficulty of transporting supplies to these areas.

Chisapani Nagarkot Trek Difficulty Level

The Chisapani Nagarkot Trek is easy to moderate trek with some challenging sections, suitable for trekkers with some previous trekking experience. The trek involves walking for several hours each day, with varying terrain and altitude and requires a good level of fitness and stamina. The highest point on the trek is Nagarkot, which is at an altitude of 2,175 meters (7,136 feet). Trekkers may experience symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headaches, dizziness, and shortness of breath, especially if they ascend too quickly. It is important to acclimatize properly and drink plenty of water to prevent altitude sickness.

Chisapani Nagarkot Trek also involves walking on uneven terrain, including steep uphill and downhill sections, as well as some rocky and narrow trails. Trekkers should be prepared for some physically demanding sections, especially during the ascent to Nagarkot. The weather conditions during the trek can also be challenging, especially during the winter season when the temperatures can drop below freezing. Trekkers should be prepared for cold and windy conditions and carry warm clothing and gear.

Requirements of Travel Insurance on Chisapani Nagarkot Trek

Travel insurance is an essential requirement for all trekkers planning to do the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek. The insurance should cover emergency medical treatment, evacuation by helicopter, and repatriation in case of a medical emergency. It should also cover loss or theft of personal belongings and trip cancellation or interruption due to unforeseen circumstances. Trekking in the mountains can be physically demanding and unpredictable, and accidents or illnesses can happen at any time. In case of a medical emergency, the cost of treatment and evacuation can be very high, and without travel insurance, trekkers may have to pay out of pocket, which can be financially devastating.

It is important to choose a travel insurance policy that specifically covers trekking and high-altitude activities, as some policies may have restrictions or limitations on such activities. It is also important to read the policy carefully and understand the coverage and exclusions. Before embarking on the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek, trekkers should carry a copy of their travel insurance policy and contact information for their insurance provider. They should also inform their guide or the trekking company of their insurance coverage and carry a first-aid kit with essential medicines and supplies.

Altitude Sickness and Remedies during Chisapani Nagarkot Trek

Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a common condition that can affect trekkers at high altitudes, including during the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek. AMS is caused by the lower levels of oxygen in the air at high altitudes, and symptoms can range from mild to severe. Mild symptoms of AMS include headache, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, and shortness of breath. In most cases, these symptoms can be managed by resting, drinking plenty of water, and taking medication such as ibuprofen or paracetamol. In more severe cases, AMS can lead to high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) or high-altitude cerebral edema (HACE), which can be life-threatening. Symptoms of HAPE include shortness of breath, coughing, chest tightness, and blue lips or fingernails. Symptoms of HACE include confusion, disorientation, difficulty walking, and loss of consciousness.

To prevent AMS, trekkers should acclimatize properly by gradually ascending to higher altitudes and allowing their bodies to adjust to the lower levels of oxygen. They should also drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and caffeine, and eat a balanced diet with carbohydrates and proteins. If trekkers experience symptoms of AMS, they should rest, drink plenty of water, and take medication. If symptoms persist or worsen, they should descend to a lower altitude and seek medical attention. In addition, some natural remedies can help prevent or alleviate the symptoms of AMS. These include drinking ginger tea or chewing on ginger, which can help with nausea, and drinking garlic soup, which can help with circulation and oxygenation.
