Among the most important monuments are the Thubchen Monastery, the museum, the Jampa Monastery, and locations for Thangka paintings. The government of Nepal opened the Lo-Manthang region for visitors in 1992. Although this township is now open for visitors, just 1000 travelers are allowed to visit this lovely location yearly. This location is only accessible to travelers from authorized trekking agencies. You will go back to your accommodation to rest for the night after doing some exploration.

    • Autumn (September, October, November)

Your vacation to Upper Mustang would be easier if you visit Nepal in the autumn. It is also essential to make reservations for your flights and accommodation well in advance if you are planning to visit Mustang in the autumn as it is the busiest trekking time.

Accommodation Facilities on Upper Mustang Trek

You will stay in three-star hotels in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and perhaps some guesthouses in Mustang throughout the upper Mustang trek and Muktinath. There are two twin beds in each lodge. On-demand and at an additional cost, a single supplement is available. Some teahouses only provide communal sinks and toilets, despite the fact that we will arrange rooms with attached facilities. Be aware that while single rooms are concise to get in Kathmandu and other lower-altitude areas, they could be challenging to find at higher altitudes.

The accommodation is nice up to Kagbeni. After Kagbeni, regular teahouses with nearby restrooms are still available. Wi-Fi is generally available and accessible at most tea shops. There are elegant dining areas with traditional heaters so you can keep warm during the winter. More tea houses, lodges, and homestays were established in this area as a result of the significant increase in trekkers. These tea houses and other lodgings are frequently filled with trekkers during the busy season and during the Tiji festivities. As a result, you must reserve your space in advance.

    Upper Mustang Trek Difficulty Level

This moderately difficult trip, known as the Upper Mustang trek with Muktinath, necessitates careful planning and packing. The area features long hikes and high-altitude terrain. This trek's routes are rather difficult because you will cross over 3500 meters. Trekkers must therefore possess the necessary strength, endurance, and stamina to successfully complete the walk. In comparison to other popular hikes, the paths are typically smooth and simple. But there are certain uphill stretches on this journey that you must climb. To successfully accomplish this walk, you must be physically and psychologically prepared.

An average day's walking for the Upper Mustang trek including Muktinath is 6 to 7 hours. In higher elevations when there is proportionally less oxygen available, acute mountain sickness is typically anticipated. To combat altitude sickness on these treks, regular hydration and acclimatization are crucial. As soon as an altitude sickness symptom appears, hikers must promptly descend to a lower elevation.

Altitude Sickness and Remedies during Upper Mustang Trek

On the Upper Mustang trip, you will go to a height of 3900 meters, so altitude sickness may not be a problem. The condition of altitude sickness should always be recognized even if it is rare in areas below 4000 meters. Diamox and other such drugs can be helpful. Furthermore, the best course of action is to drop to a lower altitude. Always ask the guides or team leaders for help if you need to take the necessary precautions. Consider the following advice while planning an upper Mustang trekking with Muktinath to avoid altitude sickness.

    • Keep yourself hydrated while touring higher altitudes and stay away from alcohol because it dehydrates you.
    • Maintain a healthy diet throughout the trip.
    • Diamox, the most effective medicine for altitude sickness, should be brought along on this jeep tour.
    • Don't hurry while walking at a high altitude. You ought to walk carefully and slowly.
    • If your body reveals any symptoms of altitude sickness, you must either stop immediately or lower some elevation.

Travel Insurance for Upper Mustang Trek

Without comprehensive travel insurance, it is hard to have a relaxing vacation. In the event of illness or accident, the expense of medical emergencies and evacuation is rather worrisome. We highly advise anybody who plans to book the upper mustang tramp including Muktinath with Green Valley Nepal Treks to purchase travel insurance. We caution you to make a thorough coverage decision since certain insurers have particular limitations for dangerous travel. Make sure your insurer is prepared to cover all of the activities involved while on the trip and is aware of the upper Mustang trekking itinerary you intend to stick to before purchasing insurance. It is a requirement of your insurance policy to include emergency helicopter rescue and medical expense coverage if you want to go hiking or mountain climbing in the Himalayas. Incredible 17 Days Trekking in the Upper Mustang

I spent the most incredible 17 days trekking in the upper Mustang, including Muktinath. My porter and guide were a youthful, experienced, and enthusiastic team. They made every effort to make my hiking experience pleasant and secure. I will miss them both a lot! Arjun was knowledgeable, diligent, and customer-focused back in Kathmandu. He goes above and beyond to provide you with the finest service possible and makes sure that everything goes properly during the journey. Upon arriving in Kathmandu, one of my bags went misplaced in transit, but Arjun was able to quickly retrieve it for me. In conclusion, I'd heartily suggest booking your treks through Green Valley Nepal Treks! I'd want to thank everyone for making my trip so enjoyable and special.

17 Days Upper Mustang Trek with Green Valley Nepal Treks

With the help of Green Valley Nepal Treks, I successfully finished my 17 Days Upper mustang Trek integrating Muktinath via the Upper mustang region in August. Gopal, who took me on my hike, was an amazing guide who was well-prepared, incredibly helpful, and informed. After the walk, he spent some time showing us about Kathmandu and assisted us in planning the remainder of our trip to Nepal. He made some fantastic ideas for places to eat, see, etc. for us. He gave us a taste of the mountain folk of Nepal on the hike. Very amiable and an excellent hike leader! Highly suggested.

    • The difficulty rating for the Upper Mustang trek is moderate. This is neither as easy as the simple hikes nor as challenging as the severe treks. As with other treks, you may, to some extent, adjust the Upper Mustang trek's degree of difficulty to fit your needs.

    • All the teahouses where you will spend the night throughout the walk have power. Paying a little fee will allow you to recharge your phones, laptops, or iPads. We don't recommend bringing your laptop if you want to use the free Wi-Fi that is not available along the walking path. On an hourly basis, some teahouses do provide Wi-Fi but don't anticipate high-speed access on the far-off trails.

    • Here are a few tips from our experienced guides to avoid altitude sickness during the Upper Mustang trek including Muktinath;

      • Slow ascend with proper rest and acclimatization
      • Drink enough water to get hydrated
      • Consume enough balanced diet food
      • Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and tobacco during the trek
      • Get prepared physically and mentally for the trek
    • No, the solo journey is not recommended since it goes through a forbidden zone. To hike in this area, you must adhere to certain rules. You must hike in a group with a competent guide and at least two other people.

    • In Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Jomsom, ATMs and credit card machines are available for usage. Above that, cash payments are required for a variety of services.

    • One option for getting water is to purchase mineral water bottles from stores located along the paths. Another way to purify tap or stream water before drinking is by bringing reusable water bottles and other types of water purification agents with you. The teahouses and the numerous streams and rivers along the path also offer the opportunity to replenish water bottles. We suggest drinking boiling water when you're at your lodge. Those who insist on exclusively drinking mineral water should be prepared to spend a little bit more money because the cost of bottled water increases as you move higher up.

    • You may participate in the Tiji Festival in Upper Mustang if you extend your journey by a certain number of days. You can also skip the Mustang Tiji Festival Trek. Please be aware that the three-day celebration only occurs once a year, usually in May or June.

    • Various types of permits that are required for trekking in this region are:

      • TIMS (Trekker's Information Management System)
      • ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit)
      • Upper Mustang Trekking Entry Permit
    • Altitude sickness is common in the area since this high-altitude walk surpasses 4000 meters of elevation. Acute Mountain Sickness develops as the oxygen level drops and the air pressure drops.

    • Any high-altitude trekking trip requires a guide. Every day, trekkers must navigate difficult terrain and far paths in order to reach their objective. Consequently, knowledgeable trekking guides will aid in navigating and ensuring your safety throughout these treks. Additionally, porters will assist you with your stuff so you may hike without restriction.
