Is EBC Trek via Gokyo with Helicopter Return Suitable For You?

Let's break this voyage down section by section to determine if it is right for you or not.

At an altitude of 5545 meters above sea level, the EBC Trek via Gokyo with Helicopter Return will transport you to famous base camps. You will be sleeping at an elevation of 5000 meters for a few days throughout this walk.

The voyage can be quite challenging, requiring an average daily march of 6 to 8 hours. It's not necessary to have prior trekking experience, but it will help if you enjoy walking, have a reasonable degree of fitness, and can adjust to high altitudes.

Although you will be traveling a well-trod path, there may be some rocky and uneven terrain on the EBC Trek via Gokyo with Helicopter Return. Since walking accounts for almost all of the route, neither rock climbing nor mountaineering equipment is required.

Still, some slopes are steep and appear to go on forever. During bad weather, the Cho La Pass may turn slick. In this case, it can be helpful to carry basic boot spikes rather than crampons.

If you have knee issues or just prefer to use them, trekking poles can be quite useful. Although the track is generally easy to follow, the wide slopes and moraine may offer additional stability at higher altitudes when used with a pole.

Gokyo Ri, one of the highest ascents on the journey before reaching Everest Base Camp, is comparatively simple but occasionally treacherous. Hikers should choose lightweight hiking boots with high ankles for the Gokyo Lakes hike to prevent ankle injuries.

It might be hot, heavy, and uncomfortable to wear heavy boots. Cross trainers are a common substitute, however, at higher elevations, they could feel chilly in the morning.

Preparation for EBC Trek via Gokyo with Helicopter Return

Trekking experts at Green Valley Nepal Treks highly recommend starting a fitness program at least six weeks before participating in EBC Trek via Gokyo with Helicopter Return, especially for beginner trekkers.

This program should improve overall endurance and strengthen specific leg muscle groups.

Engaging in hiking with a backpack is an unparalleled training method, so spending as much time as possible in hilly terrains is our best advice. During your trek, you will likely carry around 5 kilograms in your day pack, so working with this weight during your training sessions is beneficial.

If you prefer using a gym, prioritize step machines that target your thigh and calf muscles. Aim to elevate your heart rate to 50% above its resting rate. Any cardiovascular activity is beneficial, but keep in mind that swimming alone will not adequately train the specific muscle groups required for trekking.

It should be complemented with other exercises to be effective. Exercise classes such as body pump, Pilates, and aerobic workouts are all excellent preparations for a trek like this, particularly those emphasizing core strength, balance, and stability.

Day seven of the EBC Trek via Gokyo with a Helicopter Return is planned as an acclimatization day. To enjoy the breathtaking dawn and a panoramic view of the entire Khumbu region, you will travel early in the morning to Gokyo Ri, a famous peak above Gokyo Valley.

You will enjoy an increasingly breathtaking perspective of Nepal's tallest peaks, such as Everest, Makalu, Barun, Cho Oyu, and Lhotse, the higher you ascend. You will enjoy the tranquility of Thonak Tsho, the fourth lake, and then follow the path back to the third lake.

If permits and physical conditions allow, you can also hike to the fifth lake, the longest glacier in the Himalayas, Ngozumba Glacier, and spend the night back in Gokyo.

  • Tea House (Attached Bathroom)
  • Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

You will resume your EBC Trek via Gokyo with Helicopter Return today toward Dragnag, completing a day of acclimatization in Gokyo Valley. As you proceed on your walk, you will encounter Ngozumpa Glacier.

The route is shorter and gains only a small amount of elevation, but it is full of ups and downs. Strolling along the valley on the eastern side of the glacial moraine is unquestionably magnificent and gorgeous.

Tawache and Cholatse peaks will be directly beside you as you enter the yak grazing region. Trekkers can easily reach Cho-La High Pass from Dragnag Village, which is situated next to Ngozumpa Glacier in a tranquil area.

  • Tea House (Sharing Bathroom)
  • Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

  • 4 to 5 Hours

Your hike today will be quite difficult as you will be crossing the challenging Cho La Pass, a high mountain pass. For Cho La Pass, everything will be uphill from the start i.e. Dragnag. Be careful not to slip on the incline because the trail is extremely steep and covered in rocks.

A snow wonderland and breathtaking vistas of the towering Himalayan range await you when you ascend Cho La Pass. After that, you will descend sharply and stroll next to a glacier.

Ascending the trail will bring you to the foot of Awi Peak, where you can descend its lower slope. Get ready to be in complete amazement at the breathtaking vistas of Tawoche and Cholatse, two of the Himalayan giants.

Walking a row of memorial stone monuments dedicated to Sherpas and Climbers who perished on Everest mountaineering missions. The trail then heads west along the western rim of the valley, dropping down to Lobuche. Seeing the sunset over Nuptse from this viewpoint is just breathtaking.

The climb up to Lobuche will be enjoyable, unlike the day before, and you will travel with Imja Khola to the summit. Traveling to Lobuche will require four hours.

  • Tea House (Sharing Bathroom)
  • Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
  • 8.4 Kilometers
  • 5 to 6 Hours

You will commence your journey to Everest Base Camp early in the morning today. Trekking via the Khumbu Glacier's deep crevasses and icy peaks will take several hours. Rest assured, though; before hitting the path again, you will enjoy a brief lunch break. Gorakshep can be reached by following the trail.

The real accomplishment, though, comes from reaching Everest Base Camp at last. That's when you start to genuinely admire those courageous climbers who successfully navigate the treacherous Khumbu icefall.

Particularly in the spring and fall, vibrant tents stand out against drab, gray surroundings. The views of the Nuptse, Khumbuste, and Pumori mountains are breathtaking from the Everest Base Camp.

You can choose a higher route on the way back to have an even greater perspective of the South Col trail and the Khumbu icefall. Once you've had enough time to enjoy yourself on the Everest Base Camp, you'll return to Gorakshep and spend the night relaxing.

  • Tea House (Sharing Bathroom)
  • Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
  • 15 Kilometers
  • 6 to 7 Hours

Get up early and head to the best viewpoint in the Everest Region, Kala Patthar, to start your day. This location also denotes the highest point you will climb on your journey.

A magnificent 360-degree vista will be shown to you, showcasing Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and Changtse. You will take a helicopter ride back to Kathmandu, leaving Gorakshep with amazing views of the mysterious mountains in the distance. During the flight, take in the breathtaking mountain ranges up close.

You will be taken straight to the hotel upon arrival at Tribhuvan Airport's domestic terminal. Spend the day unwinding and letting your sore muscles rest to help you feel more at ease. One of the greatest hotels in Thamel is where you will stay the night.

When undertaking the EBC Trek via Gokyo with Helicopter Return, altitude sickness may be an issue. Throughout this tour, you will spend most of your time above 3000 meters. The air is thinner and has less oxygen as you go farther into the mountains, which could cause problems related to altitude.

Altitude sickness frequently manifests as headaches, nausea, dizziness, and exhaustion. It's crucial to pay attention to your body's signals and adapt gradually so that you have enough time to get used to the new environment.

If you start feeling sick, take it easy, eat healthfully, and stay hydrated. It's an incredible pleasure to go trekking in such a beautiful area, but you can make sure your journey is safe and pleasurable by exercising caution and taking care of your health.

Heartily Advise Green Valley Nepal Treks for EBC Trek via Gokyo with Heli Return

I had the pleasure of returning to Nepal, this time to see the Everest region. Discovering the breathtaking Gokyo Lake was an amazing experience. We ascended Gokyo Ri with my guide in tow and then flew in a helicopter from Gorakshep to Kathmandu. It was a stunning view from up there. The most breathtaking panoramic view of the Everest region may be found at Kala Patthar. We took a flight back to Kathmandu at last. This itinerary, which is around 15 days long, promises to be an unforgettable magical trip. To reserve this trekking package and maintain composure, I heartily advise Green Valley Nepal Treks.
