Gonja La Pass Trek is a walk into the wilderness of the mountains, yet only a short distance from Kathmandu. Most of the trail prohibits use of firewood preserving beauty of the trail. Ethnic Tibetan tribes pass along the trail and stops at Gompas and other settlement areas give ample time to absorb the ethnic culture. Ganjala Pass is a marvel of nature and other viewpoints offer exquisite views for photographers delight. Buddhist monasteries and settlements along the route have unique traditional practices and bears mystical stories.
Gonja La Pass Trekking passes through Ganja-la at a height of 5,130m forming a challenging feat, yet being the major attraction of this trek in the Langtang region. Close to Kathmandu, yet bearing the thrill of the Tibetan highlands, the trek is a combination of majestic mountain vistas, enchanting waterfalls, forests of rhododendrons et cetera.
Gonja La Pass trek starts after a drive to Sybru Bensi. We walk through a Lama settlement to Langtang village and follow the Langtang River until Kyanjin Gompa which is surrounded by Langtang Lirung on the west, Yala on the north and Dorje Lakpa, Urkeinmang, Loenpo Gang and Kangchenpo on the north-east. Naya Kanga and Ponggen Dopku are only a few kilometres from the Gompa. Here we rest for acclimatization as climb to Tsergo-ri for the next days hike. Past Kyanjin, we take enough food for a few days and take shelter in tents. Use of firewood is prohibited so supplies are to be taken. Ascending further in the trail we reach Ganjala Pass(5,122m) which is the highest point of the trek. We crossing the pass with the support of a rope for safety as the last 100m is dangerous. The descent again is a steep slope for about a kilometer which requires precautionary steps. From Ganja-la, we descend to Dukpu, Tarke Gyang and finally to Melamchi Bazaar which marks the end of the trek.

Day 6 :Rest for acclimatization hike to Tsergo-ri 4,984m back to Kyangjing Gumpa overnight at Lodge.
Day 7 :Trek to Nyengang kharka 4,430m 6/7 hours overnight at Tent.
Day 8 :Trek to High camp 4,960m 3/ 4 hours overnight at Tent.
Day 9 :Trek to Ganja-la pass 5,130m Down to Keldang 4,270m 6/7 hours overnight at Tent.
Day 10 :Trek to Dukpu 4,040m 6/7 hours overnight at Tent.

Day 1 :Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) KathmanduArrival in Kathmandu. Our Airport Representative will meet you at the Tribhuwan International Airport. A drop to the Hotel by private tourist vehicle is arranged. You can either take a rest or meet us at our office and know the detail arrangement of the Trek. B&B at the hotel.
Day 2 :Drive to Syabru Bensi 1,460m 7/8 hours overnight at LodgeAn early morning drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Bensi, the starting point of the trek. The drive takes around eight hours and passes through rural lowland villages where you can observe the procession of an ordinary day. Scenic views of mountains and stretches of rolling hills also accompany you. Overnight stay at a lodge.
Day 3 :Trek to Lama Hotel 2,410m 6/7 hours overnight at Lodge.The trek to Lama Hotel is mostly along the Langtang River. After crossing a suspension bridge, we pass a stream. The walk continues along forests of Bamboo, Rhododendron and other alpine trees. It’s an easy walk despite the wavy nature of the trail. Overnight stay at Lama Hotel.
Day 4 :Trek to Langtang village 3,330m 5/6 hours overnight at Lodge.After breakfast, we move on through a trail along dense forests that ascends to Ghora Tabela. Views of Langtang Ri and the Langtang Village are magnificent from here. As we move to the Langtang Village, prayer flags, chortens and water mills welcome us. Overnight stay at a lodge.
Day 5 :Trek to Kyanjin Gompa 3,730m 4 ½ hours overnight at Lodge.Leaving the village after breakfast, we move on through high pasture lands where yaks graze. Walking alongside the mani walls and across wooden bridges, the gain in elevation can be felt with the thinning air as we reach Kyanjin Gompa. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Day 6 :Rest for acclimatization hike to Tsergo-ri 4,984m back to Kyangjing Gumpa overnight at Lodge.It’s a day set for acclimatization. Sitting idle is not recommended though, and a hike to Tsergo Ri is scheduled in the morning. Incredible views of Langtang range meets the eyes at the elevation. After returning back, you can explore around Kyanjing Gompa which is the last settlement area for some days.
Day 7 :Trek to Nyengang kharka 4,430m 6/7 hours overnight at Tent.The trail first descends for about half an hour to reach a suspension bridge. Crossing the Langtang Khola, we ascend through a path with juniper shrubs on either side. After climbing for about five hours, we reach Nyengang Kharka from where views of Langtang Lirung and its glacier are outstanding. Overnight on a tent.
Day 8 :Trek to High camp 4,960m 3/ 4 hours overnight at Tent.The trail we take today is mostly along steep slopes. The ascent is along rocks and glaciers and is a strenuous one, however, views of Langtang Lirung, Tserko Ri and other peaks from the top is worth the effort. Overnight stay in a tent.
Day 9 :Trek to Ganja-la pass 5,130m Down to Keldang 4,270m 6/7 hours overnight at Tent.The Ganja La pass (5130m) is one of the most strenuous climbs. The pass is situated on a rocky moraine and is covered in snow throughout the year. The climb is mostly through boulders and passes some lakes. Views from the Ganja La are superb. Keldang is a short descent from the pass where we spread tents for the night.
Day 10 :Trek to Dukpu 4,040m 6/7 hours overnight at Tent.We further descent along a ridge and continue to walk along forests and grasslands to reach Dukpu where we tent for the night.
Day 11 :Trek to Tarke Gyang 2,740m 5/6 hour overnight at Lodge.After a short descent, we reach a pass that opens up for outstanding views of snow capped ranges. Again, we move downhill through forests of pine and rhododendron to reach the settlement area of Tarke Gyang. The place is inhabited by the friendly and cheerful Sherpa people and also contains an old Buddhist monastery. Overnight stay at a lodge.
Day 12 :Rest day after the high pass at Tarke Gyang over night at Lodge.After the strenuous journey through the high passes, we take a day to rest. You can explore around the periphery of Tarke Gyang and know about the tradition and lifestyle of the Sherpa people inhabiting this highland.
Day 13 :Trek to Sermathang 2,590m 6/7 hours overnight at Lodge.The trail continues through a small forest and passes a village in the Helambu region. The walk to Sermathang is through wide valleys, forests and streams. Sermathang is a beautiful Sherpa village with a Buddhist monastery. Overnight stay in a lodge.
Day 14 :Trek to Melamchi Bazaar 870m 6/7 hours overnight at Lodge.After meal at Sermathang, our last remote village, we descend towards the village of Kakani which is perched on top of a hill. Upon descending further, we reach Dubachaur, another small village from where we walk past paddy fields and alongside the Indrawati River. We cross the river to reach Melamchi Pul Bazaar, a small town popular for delicious fish from the local river. Overnight stay at a lodge
Day 15 :Drive Back to Kathmandu 5/6 hours overnight at Hotel From Melamchi Pul Bazaar to Kathmandu is a five hours drive through small villages before entering the busy Kathmandu valley. You can use the day to rest or explore around the valley. An evening dinner courtesy Green Valley Nepal Treks to celebrate the completion of your trek.
Day 16 :Departure from Kathmandu to your onward destination.Departure from Kathmandu. A drop from the hotel to the airport 3 hours before the scheduled time of flight is arranged in a private tourist vehicle. You can also opt for another package with us and move towards the next destination.
