Recommended Packing List for Nepal Trekking

These are very common questions if you are planning to do trekking in Nepal for the first time. These are very important questions because if you don’t prepare with good equipment I am sure you won’t be comfortable during the trekking. If you want to do trekking in Nepal, you have to take your packing list very seriously.
Here we prepared a common packing list for Nepal Trekking. Generally above 3500 meters weather and temperatures will be same around Nepal Himalaya.

Packing List for Nepal Trekking:
Duffel Bag: Waterproof and about 70L. We recommend you this only if you are going to use porter. Green Valley Nepal Treks will provide a duffel bag if you book Nepal Trekking with us on your arrival in Kathmandu.
Rucksack with Rain Cover: If you are planning to carry your own stuff during the trekking, we recommend you bring comfortable (back support) 50 to 60L rucksack with rain cover.
Daypack with Rain Cover: A day pack is must necessary for your trekking trip in Nepal whether you use a porter or not. Recommended daypack size is 25 to 30L with rain cover.

Right Clothes for Nepal Trekking:
During the trekking, you could see many trekkers wearing expensive outdoor fashion equipment but we recommend you prepare comfortable and durable equipment.
Thermal Baselayer Set: It is your second skin; bring the best quality (2 sets)
Fleece pullover Hoodie: keeping you warm even if moisture condenses on the inside when it rains.
Light Weight Thermal Tops: It is comfortable when you don’t use a base layer
Waterproof Jacket and paints: recommended water, rain, and snow proof (if in case of bad weather)
Hiking Shorts: At lower altitudes and under the sun, it can be comfortable
Hiking t-Shirt: For lower altitude
Hiking Pants: Lightweight quick-drying paints (no jeans please)
Gloves: recommended bringing two pairs light one and heavyweight water/windproof
Sports Bra for Her: A good sports bra is recommended when you are hiking
Sports underwear: Quick-dry

Right Footwear for Nepal Trekking: 
Hiking Boots: ankle support, waterproof (running shoes are not recommended)
Sandals or Running Shoes: In the mornings and in the evenings in the teahouse (running shoes or even sandals will be fine)
Hiking Socks: Good-quality hiking socks should keep your feet dry and comfortable. Bring enough socks
Inner Socks: To support your hiking socks you could wear thin inner socks.
Snow gaiters: in case of bad weather and snowing

Right Headwear for Trekking in Nepal Himalaya: 
Woolen Hat: This is handy to use when it’s getting cold in the evening and morning time.
Sunhat: Just it protects from the Sun
Micro fleece Buff: recommend bringing two, it is useful either low altitude or higher altitude
Sunglasses: Recommended UV protection to prevent headaches and snow blindness.

Right Accessories for Trekking in Nepal 
Trekking Poles: It is optional but if you know how to use it, then can help your knee and joints.
Sleeping Bag: Recommended at least for -20 DC, Green Valley Nepal Treks will provide on our pre-meeting if you don’t have your own (if you book the trip with us)
Down Jacket: You could take on rent in Kathmandu if you don’t have
Sleeping bag Liner: If you are planning to rent a sleeping bag, strongly recommended to bring your own liner
Head torch: small torch with spare batteries
Water Bottles: 2 x water bottles
Small wash towel: Light and quick-dry

Note: You need to avoid tight and fitting clothes. This kind of dress can often be offensive to the locals, so, you can wear such clothes as a base layer, if you find these comfortable.
