On the morning of August 26, 2026, the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi rivers turned into walls of water, ice, and rock, tearing through Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Chitwan in a matter of minutes (Wikipedia – 2026 Nepal floods). Entire settlements vanished. Bridges that had stood for generations were gone before anyone could blink. As of this week, over 400 people have been confirmed dead, and more than a thousand remain missing (NPR), among them soldiers, hydropower workers, tourists, and, most heartbreakingly, ordinary families who were simply home when the water came (The Kathmandu Post).
Behind every number is a name. A mother who was cooking breakfast. A child on the way to school. A grandfather who had survived every flood before this one, until this one.
This is not just Rasuwa's tragedy or Nuwakot's tragedy. This is Nepal's tragedy. And it belongs to every single one of us.
Why We at Green Valley Nepal Treks Chose to Act
As a trekking company, our story has always been written in the same valleys and river routes that were swept away this week. The trails we guide people through, the villages that welcome our trekkers with tea and warm smiles- these are the very communities now searching for their loved ones in the mud.
We could not simply watch from the sidelines. So we contributed NPR 51,000 to the Prime Minister's Natural Disaster Relief Fund, the official government channel set up to reach flood survivors with emergency relief, shelter, and rebuilding support. It is a small amount against an enormous need, but as our elders say:
थोपा थोपा पानीले समुद्र बनाउँछ।(Drops of water can help build an ocean.)
We are not sharing this to seek praise. We are sharing this because we believe that if a small trekking company can find a way to give, so can each of you, in whatever form is possible for you.
Scale of What Nepal Is Facing
- Over 400 confirmed deaths, with more than 1,000 people still missing across the affected districts (TIME, NPR)

There's a Nepali proverb that captures exactly what this moment demands of us:
दुःखमा साथ दिनु नै साँचो मित्रता हो।(Standing with someone in their suffering is the truest form of friendship.)
Right now, Nepal needs friends, not just from within its borders, but from everyone who has ever loved these mountains, trekked these trails, tasted this dal-bhat, or simply believed in the resilience of the Nepali spirit.
And another reminder, one every Nepali child grows up hearing:
बाँडेको दुःख आधा हुन्छ।(Sorrow shared is sorrow halved.)
